This is not the first time we see a camouflaged prototype of the new generation Ram 2500 HD, though the fresh spy shots provide more useful information regarding the pickup truck. As far as we can see, the completely redesigned workhorse is going to be largely influenced by the all-new 1500 model.
Even though it wears the heavy camouflage, the new generation Ram 2500 HD points out the same design details as the smaller truck. More precisely, the crosshair grille will be replaced by a new, most likely mesh grille, while a pair of new headlights seems somehow narrower. The rest of the redesigned body is deeply buried beneath the camouflage, so we can’t say more about the new design. However, it’s quite obvious that the 2020 Ram 2500 HD sports a few additional inches in length. The larger body will not have a negative influence on the overall weight. On the contrary, the new architecture will be made of more lightweight materials, so the truck should be lighter than earlier.
Inside, the heavy-duty truck will yet again borrow plenty of features from the new-gen Ram 1500. A 12-inch infotainment screen will definitely be a part of the new generation Ram 2500 HD, yet we can’t claim that the feature is going to be a standard part of the vehicle. What we can claim is that the manufacturer won’t skip the chance to add more advanced safety kit which will include a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist.
We’ve thought earlier that the redesigned truck is going to drop the 5.7-liter V8 engine, but this is not going to happen. Instead, the engine will be backed up by a mild-hybrid tech that uses a 48-volt starter-generator and 0.43-kWh lithium-ion battery. The heavy-duty truck will most likely keep 6.4-liter V8, as well as a 6.7-liter turbodiesel which is rumored to be updated. Though the information has not been confirmed yet, and frankly, we think that there will be nothing from the improvement. The exiting six-speed automatic transmission will make space for another gearbox with a few more gears.
Ram’s heavy-duty pickup truck will be introduced next year. The carmaker will build the vehicle in Warren, Michigan.
