2019 Audi Q8: Production-Ready Prototype Spied

Audi is getting ready to introduce the all-new Q8 E-tron concept at the upcoming Detroit auto show, but we managed to catch the production-ready prototype overseas. The German manufacturer brought the camouflaged 2019 Audi Q8 outside somewhere in snowy Scandinavia. The amazing SUV is still completely wrapped, but this is pretty thin camo, so we have pretty good idea what to expect.

The production-ready model is apparently pretty the same as the upcoming concept. The Q8 will share the platform with the Q7, but it will be different in so many ways. For instance, the prototype shows significantly bigger proportions and totally new shape. The 2019 Audi Q8 will come as the coupe-looking crossover, but the shape shows that the carmaker won’t be limited to the coupe’s lines only. From what we see here, SUV’s rooflines aren’t completely coupe-like. No, we also see a bit of wagon there. As for the specific details, the 2019 Q8 appears to be rather unique. The large SUV won’t share the lights, bumper or grille with the Q7 at all. The vehicle is getting its own grille and very hot, angular headlights, as well as a really dramatic bumper with the unique air intakes. Of course, theses halogens will be changed with full-LEDs.

Like we said, the 2019 Audi Q8 will share the MLB Evo architecture with the Q7, but don’t expect the same engines. The German car manufacturer will definitely introduce some kind of a plug-in hybrid at the upcoming NAIAS, but this won’t be the last word under the hood. The SUV will probably get an all-electric powertrain. According to the latest rumors, the battery-powered model should be able to cross up to 370 miles on a single charge. Of course, they won’t skip the chance to add some thirsty gasoline engines, like a 3.0-liter supercharged and an impressive 4.0-liter mill.

Stay tuned for updates from the upcoming 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
