2019 Mercedes-Benz GLB Prototype Spied For The First Time

We already heard many things about Mercedes’ GLB crossover SUV, but now we have the actual proof of the long time rumored vehicle. Yet, the carmaker has decide to do road testing, and we were in the right place at the right time, so voilà, here it is the first testing mule of what it appears to be the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLB. The vehicle you see is just a slightly reworked GLA crossover, so the actual design isn’t known yet. Still the rumors indicate some interesting things, so here it is:

2019 Mercedes-Benz GLB: Platform and Design

The Mercedes-Benz GLB promises to be a true off-roader. It already sports higher ground clearance and revamped suspension, which should enable better handling that would be adjusted to rough terrains. In addition to the suspension, the rugged SUV will also get a different platform, so instead of manufacturer’s MFA, the GLB crossover will ride on the MFA2 architecture. In comparison to the GLA, the new model will get longer wheelbase, it will be wider and higher, and should get larger wheels. The platform will also make it a little bit lighter from the GLA, so the performance results should be very promising.

Engine and Price

Speaking of the performance, the 2019 GLB should get the all-wheel drive as the standard option, as well as several really good engine options. Still, the most interesting unit will be a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that can pump out 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The mill will be matted to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which will send power to all four wheels.

The all-new model should become available sometime in 2018, and the starting price may reach $32K. Still, taking into account the expected characteristic, the GLB will be really outstanding SUV, so the price won’t be too high, at least we think so.
