2021 GMC Canyon Updated Truck To Get A New 2.7-Liter Turbo Engine

The 2021 GMC Canyon is getting ready to receive a mid-cycle update just like its platform buddy from Chevrolet. The updated compact pickup truck will reportedly get fresh looks, both inside and outside, as well as improved technology and an all-new powertrain.

Exterior And Interior Changes: A Sunroof For The Truck

Just don’t hold your breath for anything big to happen from the outside, because it won’t. Instead, the 2021 Canyon will probably suffer a routine facelift treatment that will bring a new nose and lights. To be more precise, the pickup truck should host an updated grille that will most probably mirror the one from the recently introduced 2020 Acadia SUV. The refreshed truck should feature new and slimmer headlights, LED-treated of course, as well as a new front bumper with integrated and redesigned fog lamps. GMC might reconsider to bring some updates around back as well, though that will also be just another beauty treatment for the truck. Meaning, the 2021 GMC Canyon could get a pair of new taillights, perhaps updated bumper, and nothing else new. Interior changes should be modest and limited to a lightly refreshed dashboard and new upholstery. Still, we largely expect updated infotainment which has been reported to be far better from the current, as well as more standard safety aids. Also, the truck will be offered with a sunroof. The option could be interesting, don’t you agree?

New Engine And More Gears

Under the hood, the 2021 Canyon will continue to use 3.6L V-6 LGZ naturally-aspirated gasoline engine and 2.8L I-4 LWN turbo-diesel mill, possibly both of them with a few extra horses thrown in. In addition to these two, the luxury compact pickup truck will get a new entry-point option for sure. In place of today’s 200-hp 2.5-liter engine, GMC’s popular workhorse will host the new GM 2.7L Turbo L3B inline-four cylinder engine. The company hasn’t release specs so far, so we have no idea what to expect from it. The pickup will use a new gearbox as well. There will be no six-speed transmission anymore. Instead, the 2021 Canyon will rely on 8- and 10-speed auto ‘boxes. The second one will be in charge for higher trims of course.

We haven’t spied any prototype of the 2021 GMC Canyon, but our insider claims that the pickup truck has to appear in the coming month at streets, so stay tuned for updates, and we’ll try to catch the truck while testing.
