2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500: Everything we know so far

Things about the new generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are much clearer now. Our photographers managed to catch a new prototype, which is still camouflaged but provides more details of what’s cooking beneath. Plus, we’ve managed to see the new cab (at least some parts of it).

Let’s start with powertrain options, shall we? Well, there’s not going to be too many changes under the hood, which is the main reason why we can say for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 that it’s going to arrive completely redesigned. As far as we know, the pickup truck will keep both V-6 and V-8 almost unchanged. Plus, the existing K2XX body-on-frame platform will continue to underpin the truck. Still, the overall bodywork will include more lightweight materials, which will boost the fuel economy without any doubt.

Of course, Chevrolet will add a new 10-speed auto transmission co-developed with Ford, while we also expect Raptor’s rival pretty soon. If everything goes according to the plan, the performance-oriented Silverado 1500 will use a 5.3-liter V-8 with supercharged technology, which should be able to overleap Ford Raptor’s 450 horsepower.

That’s not everything of course because the carmaker prepares an oil-burner option as well. If we have the right information, Chevrolet will introduce the all-new 3.5-liter V6 turbodiesel. The engine will reportedly pump out around 250 horsepower and over 400 pound-feet of twist.

Even though we can’t guarantee, it’s very likely that the 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 features the same proportions. The design is, on the other hand, completely different. Up front, the truck seems to feature a new grille and more pronounced bumper, as well as a pair of totally redesigned LED headlights. The prototype shows a new dual-exhaust layout, but we are pretty sure that beneath the camouflage the pickup sports new taillights and redesigned tailgate. Like we said earlier, we managed to get a glimpse of the new interior. Although new, the cab is basically getting an evolutionary redesign. The dash is very similar, but it’s featuring a larger infotainment screen and probably updated technologies.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is definitely heading to the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. Still, there are a few months before the official debut, so stay tuned, and we should get more information about the truck in the coming weeks.
