2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport Review

It’s quite clear that Toyota keeps stalling with the arrival of the new generation full-size pickup truck. The Japanese carmaker won’t introduce it for another two years. We know that because they recently added one more trim level which should keep the truck going until the arrival of the third-generation Tundra. The new trim level, which is named the 2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport made the official debut at this year’s Chicago auto show. We can’t skip saying that we would like to see Pro rather than Sport, but the automaker has decided for the milder option. Still, we can’t say it’s not good. No, the all-new Tundra TRD Sport is a quite interesting option, and here is why:

Toyota’s new truck isn’t just prettier from today’s models, but the new exterior distinguishes the 2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport from the “crowd”. Up front, the pickup gets a redesigned and really handsome grille and new LED headlights with TRD special graphics. The hood sports a scoop, while the bumper and mirrors come body-colored. Speaking of which, you will be able to choose between Blazing Blue Pearl, Barcelona Red Metallic, Magnetic Gray, Midnight Black Pearl, and Super White paints.

The 2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport won’t have some “mad dog” engine under the hood, yet the performance will be raised on a higher level without any doubt. The manufacturer made it tougher with TRD-tuned Bilstein dampers and TRD front and rear anti-roll bars, while the naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V-8 with 381 horsepower comes unchanged. The mill is fitted to rear- and four-wheel-drive.

We have to say that Toyota hasn’t made any impressive changes inside. No, the cab of the new trim level features just TRD Sport floor mats, shift knob, and nothing else. On the other hand, the carmaker decided to add an impressive Safety Sense P system, which includes a range of impressive driver-assistance features such as pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beams, and adaptive cruise control.

Toyota hasn’t announced any pricing information, but we should found out that pretty soon, so stay tuned for updates.
