Audi’s new Q8 flagship SUV is almost ready, but that’s not going to be everything new from the German car manufacturer. No, we just caught a testing model, which appears to be a prototype of the 2019 Audi SQ8. The high-performance model will make its debut either together with the regular Q8 or just a little bit later. However, it won’t be the topper, because the producer works on the RS Q8 as well.

SQ8’s engines

Although it’s not confirmed yet, the upcoming SQ8 will probably borrow the powertrain from the Q8 Sport concept. The power will come from a hybrid system which combines a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 with an electric motor. Altogether, the drivetrain will develop 469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, enabling 0-60 mph sprint of 4.7 seconds, while crossover’s top speed should be limited to 170 mph.

Audi might offer one more option overseas. Yes, the Old Continent may also get the 2019 Audi SQ8 TDI. The diesel SUV will reportedly use a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 good for 429 hp and whooping 663 lb-ft of torque. Both options will be mated to eight-speed transmission and all-wheel drive of course.

Specail treatment for the SUV

Aside it’s getting more potent options beneath the hood the 2019 Audi SQ8 will receive a suitable exterior and interior treatment. More precisely, the automaker will add a sport-tuned suspension system, bigger wheels with large ceramic brakes, and some unique styling cues.

Of course, the more aggressive front fascia goes together with flared fenders, but everything looks so damn good because the SQ8 sits lower to the ground. Around back, the awesome crossover sports a unique bumper with a pair of large oval exhaust tips. Inside, the carmaker will probably add Audi’s Virtual Cockpit along with lots of luxurious details.

Estiamted price

It’s pretty clear that the upcoming Audi SQ8 is going to be a real beast. However, it will have a high price tag, which should be just a little bit south form $100K.

RS Q8’s drivetrains

Like we said, Audi will introduce the 2020 RS Q8 in 2019. Judging by the information we have, the topper will feature two options beneath the hood as well. The starting model will use a V8 capable to pumps out up to 600 ponies, while the most potent Q8 should borrow in Porsche’s Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid system, which produces 680 horsepower.
