2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class spotted again, scheduled for 2018 Detroit auto show

The iconic SUV is getting some of the latest details ahead of the official introduction. According to the latest reports, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will make its debut early next year at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. We’ve spotted several testing models over the year, but the last one prototype shows almost every single new details of the second-generation G-Class.

The popular nameplate is receiving the first totally redesign the first time after its introduction in 1979, so we can’t wait to see what’s going to be changed. Unofficially, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will become more luxurious options from the predecessor. It will also host a number of body changes, such as the new lighter architecture, which will make the SUV lighter and larger at the same time. The lightweight footprint will shed about 350 pounds from the vehicle, which will have a positive influence, well, on everything.

Even though the prototype seems to feature pretty much the same length as before, it’s going to have significantly more space inside. That’s due to a few additional inches between the wheels and wider body. The additional inches will producer divide to both cargo and rear-seat room.

In addition, the redesigned G-Class will host a totally modified frame, which will have a positive effect to off-road maneuvering. That’s because the SUV hosts improved approach and departure angles and increased water fording depth for 4 inches. Plus, the carmaker will add a new independent front suspension for a far better of axle articulation, while there will be three standard differential locks for off-roading.

Mercedes’ powertrain department will mostly rely on a 4.0-liter turbocharged V-8 engine. The AMG-sourced engine will produce exactly 415 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque under the hood of the base model. The more potent G63 model will replace to an outdated 5.5-liter V-8 engine with a more potent version of the aforementioned engine. The unit will be tuned to produce a whopping output of 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. No matter which one you choose it’s going to be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The new exterior is still hiding beneath the camouflaged, but the changes are so damn evident. Basically, the SUV will keep its usual boxy styling, yet will significantly more smooth details. Still, the real fun starts indie, because the vehicle is getting an ultra-luxurious treatment with dual 12.3-inch screens, E-Class infotainment, and much more.
