2019 Ram 1500 Gets An Amazing 2.0-Liter Hurricane Engine and Maybe Pacifica’s Hybrid Help

Ram’s new generation 1500 pickup truck is still pretty far away from the production lines. However, the testing models we see almost every month are showing us what’s cooking for the future. This time, we managed to catch a prototype of the 2019 Ram 1500 with its hood up. Yes, the engine you see is the first four-cylinder mill under the hood of Ram’s bestselling nameplate.

Now, we can’t guarantee you that this particular unit is coming right away, yet it’s pretty clear that the car manufacturer is reconsidering a four-cylinder option. Moreover, we are pretty clear that we are looking into the all-new 2.0-liter Hurricane mill that’s going to make the official debut with the 2018 jeep Wrangler. The interesting unit uses twin-scroll turbocharged technology, direct injection, as well as an integrated water and air charge cooler that enables enough power even for the pickup truck. Unofficially, the four-cylinder engine will be capable of producing up to 300 horsepower.

If you think this is weird than you probably won’t believe that the car manufacturer could easily turn this setup into something even more interesting. Namely, according to the latest reports, the 2.0-liter Hurricane could be just a small piece of the puzzle. Yes, they might be working on the 2019 Ram 1500 Hybrid, which may also add Pacifica’s 16 kWh hybrid system to help the half-ton pickup to move faster. Basically, this would be a mild hybrid system, but it will definitely improve truck’s efficiency.

Stay tuned for updates.
