2019 Toyota Sequoia: Completly Redesigned SUV Returns A Year After The New Tundra Pickup Truck

Toyota’s slow-selling full-size body-on frame Sequoia SUV won’t be discontinued as we thought earlier. The 2016 Limited model year received some small upgrades on the infotainment, as well as an optional blind spot monitoring system, which is a clear sign that the car manufacturer has no intention to give up of the massive SUV derived from its Tundra pickup truck and introduced in 2000. According to autonews.com, the new generation model should be introduced a year after the arrival of the all-new Tundra pickup, which means that we can expect the completely redesigned 2019 Toyota Sequoia.

Current Model

2019 Toyota Sequoia Will Get A New Platform and A Hybrid Drivetrain

To be honest, there is more than two years until the arrival of the new generation Sequoia, so we have no idea in which direction might go the future exterior design. Of course, we are absolutely positive that the full-size SUV must wait until the arrival of the new generation Toyota Tundra, because the new vehicle will continue to exploit everything same as the big truck. This especially refers to the new platform which is rumored to be sturdier and with fully boxed frame. The new architecture is planned to fits plenty of new engine options, so except of the gasoline and diesel engines, the 2019 Sequoia could get a hybrid, or even a plug-in hybrid drivetrains. This “electric help” would greatly fix the fuel economy issues of the full-size SUV.

On the other hand, the regular gasoline should come with the standard 5.7-liter V8 engine, but instead of the current 381 hp and 401 pound-feet of torque, the updated unit should deliver 389 horsepower and 403 lb-ft of twist. The diesel 2019 Sequoia SUV model largely depends on the Tundra pickup, because if the Japanese car manufacturer decides to add an amazing 5.0-liter Cummins diesel under the hood of the truck, they would try with the oil-burner SUV model as well. If it happens, then you can expect the new generation Sequoia with 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque.

2019 Toyota Sequoia: Exterior and Interior Redesign

The exterior redesign is also connected with the 2018 Tundra, because the 2019 Toyota Sequoia should look almost the same from the front. What we expect is an aggressive chrome grille with horizontal slats and a clam-based front bumper. The future headlights could feature more dynamic and outlandish styling, with LED daytime running lights around. Inside, the car manufacturer must be truly inspired to replace thus far boring styling with something that will intrigue the potential buyers. In addition to softer design, the cab might receive plenty of new standard features like blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, push button start with keyless entry, wireless, or even a standard dual-zone automatic climate control.
