2020 Audi SQ8 TDI Revealed: The Coupe-SUV Gets A 429-HP Turbodiesel Mild Hybrid Drivetrain

Four rings automobile manufacturer revealed a new flagship SUV overseas. It’s an all-new 2020 Audi SQ8 TDI that burn tires thanks to an impressive powertrain. Of course, the gorgeous diesel-powered coupe-like crossover isn’t going to reach the U.S. dealerships anytime soon, so the North American public has to wait for the gasoline model.

Regarding the 2020 SQ8 TDI, the SUV exploits the identical drivetrain as the SQ7 TDI. The system combines an amazing 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 diesel engine that supplies all-wheel drive via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The mighty oil-chugging mill kicks out 429 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to the output, the SUV manages to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.8 seconds. A pretty impressive result for the big diesel fellow, don’t you think? Top speed stops at 155 mph due to electronic limitation. In addition to a pair of turbochargers, the vehicle gets an electric compressor and a 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack. The feature is here in order to eliminate turbo lag thanks to its impressive spin at 70,000 rpm. According to Audi, the system builds boost pressure in less than 250 milliseconds.

The mighty diesel engine isn’t the only thing that differentiates the 2020 Audi SQ8 TDI from the regular model. The powerful oil-burner sits closer to the ground; it rides on 21-inch wheels, which can be traded for 22-inch alloys. No matter which ones you pick, they will be coupled with carbon fiber brakes, while everything gets an even better “taste” thanks to adaptive air suspension and the Drive Select dynamic handling system. Both the front and rear fascias are slightly different: Up front, the SUV gets larger air intakes, while the rear end hosts quad exhaust tips. Inside, the awesome model gets Audi’s usual ‘S’ styling treatment paired with Alcantara trim, aluminum accents, and stainless steel pedals.

The 2020 Audi SQ8 TDI will hit dealerships in Europe later this summer.
