2020 Lincoln Corsair Replaces The MKC Crossover

We’ve spotted a successor of Lincoln’s compact MKC crossover earlier. The camouflaged prototype didn’t show much earlier thanks to heavy wraps, but we’ve somehow managed to figure out what’s cooking beneath the camo. Today, however, some reports claimed that Ford’s luxury department came up with a name for the SUV. According to them, the vehicle that we know as the MKC will be called the 2020 Lincoln Corsair.

Even though Lincoln’s naming strategy has changed several times over the last few years, the name Corsair doesn’t fit anywhere. The carmaker offers the flagship Navigator and will offer all-new Aviator and Nautilus in the coming months. While we see some sense in the naming strategy for these three models, we can’t figure out what’s with the Corsair. Though, since they have the SUV named by the famous submarine, why would not they have the SUV that’s named by a pirate ship?

In any case, the 2020 Lincoln Corsair will arrive in the second half of 2019. The carmaker will open some new chapters with the arrival of the luxury compact crossover thanks to an all-electric powertrain. We do not have anything official regarding the EV at the moment, yet we know it’s going to share it with the next-gen Ford Escape. Plus, there will be at least two gasoline units on the table. The base model will probably get a 179-hp unit, while the topper should deliver up to 250 ponies form a turbo-four unit. Lincoln will not skip the chance to offer a plug-in hybrid unit as well that will reportedly deliver an electric driving range of around 30 miles.

It’s still hard to say what’s going on beneath the camouflage. However, according to the latest rumors, both the 2020 Corsair and the less expensive sibling from Ford department will share the same new platform. The redesigned SUV should grow slightly and will get a more aggressive design. It will likely pick up some styling cues from the all-new Aviator, so you can expect to see the carmaker’s inspiring grille, as well as pretty stylish lights at both ends.
