2019 BMW X5 M Spied: The redesigned SUV gets 600 HP

BMW’s new generation mid-size SUV is almost ready for its official debut. However, this is the first time we managed to catch a prototype of the topping 2019 BMW X5 M. That’s because the high-performance model will arrive a little bit after the regular X5.

The spy shots suggest that the 2019 X5 M won’t look like its predecessor at all. Like the regular model, the M will also rife on the new CLAR platform. The architecture will reportedly improve SUV’s rigidity, reduce weight, and boost driving characteristics. Plus, it will be able to accommodate a mighty powertrain.

Judging by the latest reports, the 2019 BMW X5 M will come in a pair with an updated 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. Even though the car manufacturer hasn’t released output figures yet, we are almost sure it will pump out a whopping output of 600 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Although more powerful, the engine will be more efficient, so the new X5 M should feature better fuel economy. Of course, the unit will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

We can’t really see what’s beneath the camouflage. However, it’s quite clear that we are looking into the M version due to really huge air intakes and large wheels. As you may notice, the prototype also sports a lowered suspension system and quad exhaust layout, the details that always go with the high-performance BMW. Of course, the redesigned SUV will get a pair of new headlights and a redesigned grille, while the interior should feature a special treatment.

Like we said, the redesigned 2019 BMW X5 M will arrive after the non-M model, so don’t expect to see it before mid-to-late 2018. The base price will be higher a little bit from today’s model. In case you are not too excited with the X5 M, you can wait for the new X6 M or even for the new flagship X7, which will probably offer a high-performance version until 2020.
