2019 Jeep Grand Commander Introduced At The 2018 Beijing Auto Show

Jeep’s all-new seven-seat SUV made its debut at this year’s Beijing Auto Show. The vehicle will be sold in China only, so don’t expect to see the 2019 Jeep Grand Commander anywhere near the North American soil. Instead, we will have to wait for an SUV with a “Wagoneer” nameplate.

As for the 2019 Grand Commander, well, the three-row SUV looks pretty much like the new Compass. There are some styling cues borrowed from the Yuntu concept as well, but basically, the exterior design mirrors Jeep’s compact crossover.

It’s important to mention that the new nameplate features pretty much the same dimensions as the Grand Cherokee. To be more precise, it is 192 inches long, which is two inches over the Grand Cherokee, but the wheelbase is 4 shorter, and this significantly cuts out the interior space.

The 2019 Jeep Grand Commander rides on Compact U.S. Wide (CUSW) platform. The architecture underpins the current Cherokee at the moment, so we know pretty much everything about it already. By using it, the new SUV will be able to use a number of options under the hood. However, the car manufacturer has decided to use just a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit for now. The engine is a bit detuned so it’s not going to produce expected 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque as usual. Instead, it will be limited to 231 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of twist. The power goes either to the front or to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

If you want our opinion, as we see it, the 2019 Jeep Grand Commander isn’t the best possible solution for a three-row SUV. Well, it may be good for China, but the car manufacturer will have to do better if they want to make any success in North America.
