2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class Prototype Loses Camouflage And Shows New Grille

Mercedes’s second generation GLE SUV is one step closer to the production lines. Okay, there is still plenty of time before this actually happens, yet the newest testing model reveals something we haven’t seen until now.

If you look closer, you will realize that the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class won’t have a black grille as we thought so far. No, these two horizontal bars appear to be chromed. Plus, the prototype reveals some familiar cues such as headlights and air intakes from the 4-door AMG GT. The details will definitely make the ML-Class successor significantly more attractive.

Interior wise, the SUV is getting a number of useful changes, yet the most important part is definitely the Windscreen Cockpit system that replaces a series of buttons. In addition, the German car manufacturer will definitely boost driver-assistance systems and advance infotainment system, as well as some kind of semi-autonomous drive.

The 2019 GLE-Class will get new bones as well. The Modular High Architecture made debut with the new GLC, so we know everything about it. Aside it will make Mercedes’ luxury SUV lighter and more rigid the platform will also enable more engine options. Moreover, it’s so flexible that we expect everything starting from four-cylinder options up to eight-cylinder engines. Of course, six-cylinder engines will be in the middle, but that’s not all.

As we announced earlier, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class will also feature a hybrid technology, involving a 48-Volt system that collects and transforms kinetic energy into electricity. Still, no matter how important is fuel economy, we would rather drive the AMG-branded model paired with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8. Anyway, whatever model you choose, it’s going to be paired with a smooth none-speed automatic transmission, while most of the models should use all-wheel drive setup.

You know already that the SUV isn’t some cheap piece of metal, so in case you are wondering how much cash you need to set out for the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, be sure that it won’t start below $53,000.
