2020 Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty Caught Testing: The new truck will drop the 5.7-liter V-8

Guess what? Ram’s 2500/3500 Heavy Duty trucks are not going to be ready for the next year. No, they will make the official arrival in early 2019, most likely at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. We figure out that a few days ago when the carmaker started testing of the 2020 Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty. The pickup truck has been spied totally camouflaged, but we would not see anything new in case someone let us take the camo off because it’s too early see what’s new. That’s why we’ve contacted our trusted source, which agreed to reveal some of the future characteristics.

New, Lighter Platform

According to what we’ve found out, the next generation Ram Heavy Duty will drop the existing architecture in favor of the all-new body-on-frame platform. The main characteristic of the new chassis will be more lightweight materials. Plus, the redesigned truck will likely grow in size, though not too much, but just to skip over the biggest rivals. The footprint isn’t going to be everything that grows. No, the workhorse will also try to enlarge towing and hauling capabilities.

Options Under The Hood

Regardless of the planned changes, the options under the hood of the 2020 Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty will most likely mirror the current. However, the pickup truck may lose today’s 5.7-liter V-8. The engine is pretty solid, but Ram will reportedly cancel it down very soon. Instead, the potential buyers will get a 6.4-liter V-8 that’s able to produce 410 hp and 429 lb-ft. The diesel truck will definitely keep its amazing 6.7-liter turbocharged inline-6 from Cummins. The option will come untouched because it’s awesome already. The oil-burner supplies the truck with around 400 horsepower (or perhaps a bit less) and 930 pound-feet of torque. By using the unit, the next-generation Ram Heavy Duty is going to tow well over 30,000, and does anyone needs more?

New Technologies

The redesigned Ram 2500/3500 will get features a number of new technologies. There is nothing official about that right now, but our source claims that the carmaker tries to focus on driver’s needs, which means that the vehicle won’t stay without some additional equipment for towing and hooking. Of course, a 360-degree camera isn’t going to be all. Ram may also add cruise control and lane keep assist and similar options.
