2019 Mercedes AMG G63 Spied Testing in Snowy Sweden


These days, the snowy Sweden is one of the favorite destinations, at least for the German car manufacturers. After we saw several BMWs in the past several days, today we managed to catch a prototype of what seems to be a high-performance version of the Mercedes’ iconic SUV. As you probably know, the G-Class is getting ready to receive the first complete redesign after forty years, so they decided to introduce the all-new 2019 Mercedes AMG G63 as well.

2019 Mercedes AMG G63: Details, Details

If you wonder how we know it’s the AMG’s “mad dog”, well, it’s pretty simple because of the testing model sports some heavy kit. There are extra-large openings on the front bumper, as well as larger wheels and brakes. The front end seems to be lowered and wider, but this is the case with the regular model as well. The new generation G-Class will be larger, yet lighter. This is due more aluminum parts all around. Yes, the alloy underpinnings will shed plenty of pounds. Some reports claim that there will be around 800 lbs less, which will definitely boost both performance and handling.

Smaller Yet More Powerful Engine

Speaking of the performance, the 2019 Mercedes AMG G63 will probably dismiss the current bitturbo 5.5-iter engine in favor of the AMG’s new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8. According to our source, the unit will deliver between output between 571 hp and 612 hp. The power will run all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes’ AMG department will also introduce the redesigned G65 model. However, the topping SUV won’t get the new but the updated 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine.

Inside

The new generation G-Class will also receive a completely new interior design, and of course, the 2019 AMG G63 model will get the premium touch only. We were not able to see the complete cab, yet we managed to catch the new dash. There are a multifunctional steering wheel and all new infotainment touchscreen that’s integrated into the dashboard. Since it will come wider and longer, the new generation Mercedes AMG G63 will probably have more interior space, so the comfier should be additionally enhanced.

Arrival

The regular G-Class SUV should be introduced next year at the 2017 Paris Motor Show, so it will come as the 2018 model in Europe. On the other hand, the AMG version should make its debut sometime later, likely at 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
