2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel rumored to use Hilux’s 2.8-liter diesel engine

There is going to be one more diesel pickup truck by the end of the next year. According to our insider, the all-new 2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel is finally coming. The oil-burner workhorse will reportedly host Hilux’s more potent diesel option, which seems to be a quite logical regardless of the fact that the mill can’t compete even with the Chevrolet Colorado Diesel.

Performance Numbers

No, Chevy’s mid-size oil-chugging truck delivers 188 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, while the Hilux’s 2.8-liter diesel currently managed to squeeze “just” 177 hp and 332 pound-feet of twist. Still, bearing in mind that the Japanese manufacturer doesn’t care too much about the competition and watch only into its own backyard, they will probably settle on the current output numbers. Toyota will most likely offer two transmission choices here. The diesel pickup will get both six-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearboxes. By using Hilux’s diesel unit, the 2019 Tacoma will boost its towing capacity. Unofficially, the truck will be able to tow 7,700 pounds, which is basically the same result as Colorado’s.

Possible Changes

The 2019 Toyota Tacoma Diesel will feature a few styling changes. It’s not going to be anything big at all. No, the Japanese carmaker will probably add a new grille and perhaps slightly restyled lights to the oil-burner truck. Of course, since it’s a diesel, the pickup will host a different exhaust system. The interior changes may bring new upholstery and updated infotainment. As we’ve heard, all future Tacoma models will host a far better safety suit, so they won’t skit the oil-burner model without any doubt.

Estimated Price

Toyota hasn’t released any official information about all this, but we really expect this to happen. The 2019 Tacoma Diesel is something that North American public deserves to see. If it arrives, the truck will probably cost a bit more than the gasoline model. However, the price should not go over $28,000 for sure.
