Mazda’s second-generation CX-9 is almost ready, and according to the latest reports, this large SUV will be introduced this fall at the 2015 Los Angeles auto show. The all-new seven-seater will undergo a comprehensive redesign, which is rumored to be based on KODO design language, so it is expected that the crossover receives some amazing styling cues. In addition, the 2016 Mazda CX-9 will ride on an updated Skyactiv platform, and the manufacturer plans to change a current 3.7-liter V6 engine with one smaller unit.
2016 Mazda CX-9: New Engines, One Diesel
In place of the 3.7-liter V6, the full-size SUV will likely get a four-cylinder SKYACTIV turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, which will be able to produce more power than the V6, and yet more efficient. This turbo four unit is also planned to come with the 2017 Mazdaspeed 3, so we expect enough power from the engine. In addition, the next generation Mazda CX-9 is rumored to get a diesel engine too, and since this is a full-size SUV the only engine option can be a 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D diesel oil-burner. A six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control is likely to be only gearbox option, while the crossover definitely continues with both front- and all-wheel drive.
2016 Mazda CX-9: Redesign Details

The carmaker will probably involve lots styling cues from the smaller and imposing CX-3, so there must be plenty of comaplex curves through whole body. The SUV will also adopt Skyactiv new lightweight yet stiff chassis, so the attractive vehicle will definitely come with better fuel economy. The interior styling must be outstanding. Mazda made an amazing cab design of the CX-3 crossover, and since the CX-9 represents the range toping model, the automaker will provide even more luxury, premium feel and better tech.
