Volkswagen’s lineup is constantly expanding. After we saw a prototype of the new three-row crossover SUV how it circling somewhere in Southern California, we managed to catch one more VW’s new high-riding car. However, in contrast to the three-row SUV that will be positioned above Touareg, this one will sit below the Tiguan, which was the smallest crossover in the Volkswagen’s SUV lineup until now. No one knows for sure what will be the actual name of the all-new subcompact SUV, but since irresistibly resembles the current Polo we will call it the 2019 Volkswagen Polo SUV just for now.

2019 Volkswagen Polo SUV will look like the T-Cross Breeze Concept

Since the carmaker also works on the new generation Polo, it was pretty hard to conclude that we are actually looking at the all-new crossover. Still, the prototype that you see here has notably lifted suspension, so yes we are sure it is the all-new SUV. However, in contrast to the testing mule that looks like the current Polo model, the production version of the 2019 VW Polo SUV will be completely different. We know that because the German car manufacturer already introduced the concept version of the new high-riding vehicle. The new subcompact will definitely look more like recently shown T-Cross Breeze Concept. Of course, the production model will be toned down a bit, and won’t be the convertible SUV, at least not right away. As for the styling details, we still expect certain similarities with the new-gen Polo, especially in the front end. The subcompact will likely have identical headlights and grille, while the bumper and hood design should be borrowed from the T-Cross.

2019 Volkswagen Polo SUV: Engine Options

The 2019 Volkswagen Polo SUV will ride on the new platform, so it will offer a wide range of engine options. The T-Cross concept came with a 1.0-liter TSI turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine, which is capable of producing 110 HP, so we believe that the production model could also feature the same option. In addition, there will be a 1.4-liter TSI that delivers 147 horsepower, and a 1.8-liter TSI that develops 189 horsepower. The new Polo SUV will also offer several diesel options, most likely the new 1.5-liter and 2.0 TDI, as well as the optional AWD and seven-speed DSG transmission.
