Mitsubishi e-Evolution Concept previews the first electric crossover

These teasers are previewing the upcoming Mitsubishi e-Evolution concept. This is basically a coupe-like SUV with an all-electric powertrain. The concept will be introduced this month at Tokyo auto show, but we have a pretty good idea of what the carmaker tries to do.

The Mitsubishi e-Evolution will reportedly use a three-motor 4×4 system, where one the electric motors run the front axle, while other two supply the rear wheels. The carmaker hasn’t released any information regarding the power of the system, but they have mentioned that the system is using an electronically controlled torque vectoring to the rear through an Active Yaw Control.

Plus, there is so-called Artificial Intelligence system, which is actually using sensors and cameras to read traffic condition and road changes in order to help the driver in certain situations. We are not so sure how, but according to Mitsubishi, the AI system will be able to adapt the crossover to driver’s abilities and environment, which can be quite useful. The AI is mated to a large dash display, where the driver can also get some sort of training program, which includes advice and feedback.

Styling wise, the Mitsubishi e-Evolution concept is showing a futuristic body with a coupe-like profile. The design is somehow “love it or hate it”, but we like it. Still, the chance to see this crossover concept in Mitsubishi’s production facilities is almost nothing. However, it will definitely serve as a basis for company’s first-ever all-electric SUV.

The Mitsubishi e-Evolution concept will make its official debut this October, but the manufacturer needs at least two or even three years to make the production model.
