In case you think that Mercedes can’t do better from the all-new diesel-powered E-Class All Terrain, we must tell you that you are so wrong. The German car manufacturer is currently working on something more upscale that will amaze everyone. It’s the high-performance 2018 Mercedes-AMG E43 All Terrain. Judging by the information we have, the outstanding wagon will be ready before the end of this year, so we expect to see it at this year Frankfurt Motor Show.
The current E-Class All-Terrain that comes just with a 2.0-liter diesel engine that can pump out up to 191 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and will likely get a V6 diesel later this year, but there is no gasoline-powered model there. On the other hand, the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E43 All Terrain will definitely pack some kind of gasoline mill, most probably the new 3.0-litter bi-turbocharged V6 engine. The unit is capable of delivering 396 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough power from the high-performance wagon. Of course, the engine will be paired to a fast-shifting nine-speed automatic that sends power to all four wheels via the 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Car’s top speed will be limited to 155 mph, while a 0-60 sprint should be around 4.5 seconds.
The camouflaged prototype we caught doesn’t show much, yet we are sure it’s the high-end E43 All Terrain. We know because it sports significantly beefier wheel arches and AMG signature twin exhaust system. There are also new five-spoke sports wheels with larger brakes. The interior of the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E43 All Terrain will probably mirror the standard E43 AMG, so expect nothing less from standard sports seats, black leather upholstery with red contrast stitching, and a huge 12.3-inch center display. The amazing wagon will feature plenty of standard driver aids such as adaptive cruise control with a forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, as well as lane-keeping assist and likely automated driving technology, so-called Drive Pilot.
Some reports indicate that the carmaker might add a V8 mill under the hood of the performance-oriented E43 All-Terrain, but we think this won’t happen. However, we would definitely know more in the coming months, so stay tuned.
