The third-generation Acura RDX has been previewed ahead of the official debut. The redesigned luxury compact crossover looks truly awesome, so we can’t wait to see the high-riding vehicle face-to-face at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. The Japanese carmaker has added more motion to the exterior design, which fits perfectly. Still, this is not the best part of the 2019 Acura RDX. Just wait to see the cabin. The new infotainment and dashboard will knock you out without any doubt. Performance wise, well, Honda’s premium division is still hiding the detail, but we think we know what’s cooking beneath this shiny hood.
Let’s start with the amazing exterior styling, shall we? The 2019 RDX appears to feature a bit wider, yet lowered body lines. This way, the crossover looks brawnier and more dynamic at the same time. The floating roof isn’t something we haven’t seen so far, but it fits perfectly to the vehicle. The face features pretty aggressive headlights and Acura’s 3-dimensional grille. The angular diamond pentagon grille has been borrowed from the Precision concept, but we think it fits better to the crossover.
Acura hasn’t shown a complete cabin so far. However, judging by the available shots, the 2019 RDX will host a number of new features, including a new user interface and operating system. More precisely, the SUV will replace the twin-display layout with a far cleaner freestanding touchscreen, which sits at the very top of the dash.
The SUV will ride on a new platform. The architecture isn’t going to be shared with Honda vehicles. Instead, it’s exclusively for Acura’s products. Anyway, the underpinning will be mated to a 2.0-liter turbo and eight-speed twin-clutch automatic. The engine currently powers the Honda Accord, yet the sedan uses a 10-speed auto transmission, so these two won’t be alike at all. We don’t know why, but we have a feeling that the turbo model won’t be everything from Acura. Instead, the carmaker could add the 2019 RDX Hybrid, too. The official debut is very close, so we will see is there any hybrid option under the hood.
