The awesome 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake is ready to be introduced at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. Unfortunately, the impressive model will not be available in North America, simply because it’s a wagon. We can’t really say why, but wagons are not too popular in the U.S., so Mercedes-Benz USA won’t even bother to give a try with the second-generation CLA Shooting Brake.
The automaker hasn’t released official images so far, but we’ve found some pretty realistic renderings which are based on the regular CLA. The wagon looks really gorgeous and fancy enough to match these-days popular crossovers. Compared to its predecessor, the regular CLA gets two additional inches in length. We expect pretty much the same improvement with the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake.
Potential buyers will be able to choose between 18- and 19-inch wheels. Inside, the car will use a dual-screen layout: one 7-inch screen will be in charge of wagon’s instrument cluster, while the second, also 7-inc, is going to support the infotainment. The displays can be swapped for larger 10.25-inch units, but this would cost you some extra money. The new MBUX multimedia will leave you breathless. It comes paired with an assistant that identifies operation requests based on hand movements. Also, it’s been supported with far better navigation (3D augmented reality for the satellite navigation system), while the system understands indirect voice commands too.
The wagon will host a range of new technologies and driving aids, which will enable semi-autonomous abilities in certain situations. We still have no idea what’s going to be standard and optional, yet the list is definitely going to include adaptive cruise control with route-based speed adaption, active lane control, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitors with cross-traffic warning.
Under the hood, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake will get a 2.0-liter turbo-4 that delivers 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine is going to be mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. If the automaker decides to offer AMG based models (we are sure this would happen), then you can expect more smoke of the tires, because the AMG division models will pack more potent turbos. To be more precise, the entry-point CLA 35 Shooting Brake will get a 300-hp mill, while the hotter CLA 45 Shooting Brake should use a 400-hp unit. If they make the “vanilla” CLA 45 S option, then the mighty 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine needs to squeeze 416 horsepower. We can’t skip mentioning the car’s new architecture. From now on, the impressive wagon will ride the Modular Front Architecture 2. That’s highly important because by using the chassis, the model gets a drag coefficient of 0.23. Meaning, there will be no match for the new-gen CLA Shooting Brake.
Stay tuned for updates.
