2019 Kia Soul: Redesigned Crossover Spotted For The First Time

We can discuss the current Kia Soul all day, but we can’t really agree whether we are looking into crossover or it’s a hatchback. Either way, the car is pretty interesting, yet also outdated. Today’s model has been around since 2014 and it’s refreshed in 2017, so it looks decent. Still, there are a number of details which can and will be better when the new-generation Kia Soul arrives. And it will arrive pretty soon without any doubt. We know that thanks to a set of spy shots. The prototype has been pictured somewhere close to the North Pole, where the carmaker is checking out the new abilities of the 2019 Kai Soul.

Hopefully, the prototype is using all-wheel-drive for the first time. The AWD will be exclusively mated to a 7-speed DCT. Though, the carmaker will offer six-speed manual and 6-speed gearboxes as well. A range of transmission options will be paired with a number of engines. The 2019 Soul will start with a 2.0-liter engine, which delivers 147 horsepower. In case you want something more potent, there’s going to be a 1.6-liter turbo with the ability to produce 201 horsepower. Some reports (although unofficial) claim that the small SUV (we dare to call it SUV) should offer a high-performance model that will reportedly use a 2.0-liter turbo with 275 horsepower. That’s not everything of course. The manufacturer will continue to offer the Kia Soul EV. However, the model has got a new powertrain last year, so we don’t expect anything new or better from today’s 111-mile range.

The prototype is totally camouflaged, so it’s pretty difficult to figure out what’s going to be changed. Still, judging by the shots, we can conclude that the new-gen Soul sports either a bit higher roof or more aggressive front end. The new crossover will likely feature new split headlights, while the taillights appear to be as high as earlier (and vertical of course). The new grille is completely covered, but we hope it’s going to be borrowed from the new Niro crossover.

The 2019 Kia Soul will reportedly be introduced at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. Still, there is plenty of time until then, so stay tuned for updates.
