This is not the first time we see a prototype of Ram’s new generation 1500, but it’s the first time we managed to catch truck’s new interior. Judging by the spy shots, the 2019 Ram 1500 will offer a Mega cab version. Moreover, the prototype you are looking at is actually the next Mega cab.
2019 Ram 1500: Interior Changes
As you can see, the cab isn’t quite finished at the moment, but there are plenty of new details already. The iconic pickup truck is getting a large display in the center, as well as some quite big rotary dials, plus the rotary dials of the transmission, which are the part of today’s model too. The three-dial controls below the screen are in charge for pickup’s new climate, while we see a trailer-brake controller as well. We can’t really say that the interior sports revolutionary design at all, but the changes will make it fresh yet familiar, which isn’t a bad move at all.
Truck’s Exterior Changes
As you can see, the prototype of the next-generation Ram 1500 is still totally camouflaged at the moment, which prevents us from seeing what’s new from the outside. However, it appears that the carmaker has no intention to change truck’s existing grille at all. On the other hand, the headlights are getting slimmer C-shape and LED technology. Of course, the carmaker will definitely reshape the current hood and rooflines, but don’t expect anything too different from today’s model. In the rear, the prototype sports a pair of the taillights also C-shaped and a dual exhaust system.
Engines and Platform
It appears that the 2019 Ram 1500 won’t change its usual footprint. However, the weight will largely change due to a new platform that includes some lightweight materials like aluminum. The new body-on-frame architecture will also underpin the next-gen Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, so it should be able to support a range of engines. Speaking of which, the truck will probably rely on the existing the familiar 3.6-liter V-6 and 5.7-liter V-8 engines. However, in contrast to today’s options, the new will feature turbochargers, so there might be more power under the hood if the 2019 Ram 1500. Of course, the manufacturer won’t forgive to offer its oil-burner truck. The diesel workhorse will likely use an updated version of the current 3.0-liter EcoDiesel. All engines will come in a pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Official Debut and Price
According to our insiders, the completely redesigned Ram 1500 will be introduced early next year at the 2018 Detroit auto show. The pickup truck will likely keep its base price almost unchanged.
