2019 Volkswagen Tiguan R or 2019 Audi RS Q3? Either way, it’s good to see you

It seems that we are getting one more high-performance SUV.As you can see, Volkswagen in testing the current Tiguan at the Nürburgring. However, the crossover is using an all-new really and powerful engine, which makes us believe that isn’t the ordinary model, but a highly anticipated 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan R.

Even though we were pretty sure that the 2019 Tiguan R is getting a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder from the Golf GTI, this isn’t the case with the prototype. No, the testing model is definitely using something stronger, most likely an amazing 2.5-liter five-cylinder unit.

This probability opens up one more speculation here. Namely, some reports indicate that this is not the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan R, but a testing mule for the upcoming 2019 Audi RS Q3. This makes sense for many reasons. First of all, the car uses Ingolstad license planes, which isn’t home of Volkswagen. No, it’s Audi’s hometown, so there is a great possibility it’s actually some kind of four-ring vehicle. Why RS Q3? Well, the new generation Q3 is under development, so why should not they offer the high-performance model, when they have a suitable engine already.

The turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder will deliver 400 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of twist, which will supply all four wheels via 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with manual shifting mode. We know that because Audi offers the RS3 model with the same powertrain.
