2020 Audi Q2 e-tron Spied Testing Its 310 Mile-Range Powertrain

Audi is trying to expand its electric-models offer as quickly as it’s possible. That’s why the German automaker works on several EVs at the same time. This particular testing model is actually the upcoming 2020 Audi Q2 e-tron. To be more precise, this would be the long-wheelbase variant of the coupeish SUV. According to the manufacturer, there will be 12 new electrified models by the end of 2020, and this one is going to be one of the first from the list.

Judging by the spy shots, the all-electric Q2 is not going to look too different in comparison with one that uses an internal consumption engine. More precisely, the 2020 Audi Q2 e-tron gets just a slightly reworked grille with different mesh treatment which will reportedly be chromed when the production model arrives. At the rear, the crossover sports a bumper without any exhaust tips of course.

You can find the regular Q2 paired with an array of different powertrains at the moment. Depending on the market, the coupe-SUV can be fitted with 1.6- and 2.0-liter diesels and with 1.0-liter three-cylinder, 1.4-, and 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline options. There’s the performance SQ2 version that exploits a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

As for the 2020 Audi Q2 e-tron, well, since it has been supported by Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, the SUV can’t be using the automaker’s new electric technology that’s compatible only with the VW’s new MEB architecture. It means that the crossover is going to exploit a familiar powertrain as the current e-Golf. Still, the hatch uses a small 35.8-kilowatt-hour battery good for 125 miles only, while the SUV should pack a twice bigger battery that will reportedly enable a drive-range of 310 miles. The big battery explains why the company uses the long-wheelbase variant for the purpose.
