Skoda’s largest SUV is apparently getting ready to receive a mid-cycle update. The vehicle has been spotted testing partly camouflaged, so we know that we are dealing with a facelift only. Based on spy shots, the 2020 Skoda Kodiaq will host just minor styling changes from the outside. Still, since we are evidently dealing with the Sportline trim, details from the outside might be different when the entry-point model shows its ugly face.
Anyway, based on these spy shots, the 2020 Kodiaq seems to be getting the new front bumper and restyled grille. Although the camouflage partly hides the headlights, we are pretty sure the seven-seat SUV continues with its current two-tier setup. However, they will most definitely exploit matrix LED technology. Around back, the three-row crossover SUV gets just a pair of reshaped taillights and nothing else new. The new taillights are coupled with sequential LED turn signals – the same one that made debut with the Kamiq. The profile doesn’t reveal anything new at all. More precisely, the facelifted vehicle will keep its lines untouched, but it will ride on new alloy wheels, which will be reserved for the Sportline trim only.
Since the prototype hasn’t been spied from the outside, we are not aware if there anything new inside of the cabin. On the other hand, we are pretty sure what’s cooking under the hood of the 2020 Skoda Kodiaq. The flagship SUV will introduce two new powertrains without any doubt. The automaker will add VW Group’s latest and extra-clean 2.0 TDI Evo that made debut in the Passat. The option pumps out 150 horsepower. Of course, the crossover will get its first-ever plug-in hybrid powertrain. The PHEV system will combine a 1.4-liter TSI four-cylinder and an electric motor. The motor will provide electricity thanks to a 13-kWh battery pack, while wheels start spinning thanks to a six-speed DSG. The SUV will have a respectable amount of power that’s estimated to be 218 horsepower. According to WLTP rating, the 2020 Kodiaq PHEV will be able to travel up to 34 miles sole on electricity.
There’s no official word on when and where exactly the refreshed SUV is going to make the debut. However, some reports claim that the three-row vehicle won’t be introduced before the 2020 Geneva Motor Show.
