2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Spotted Redesigned

Mitsubishi is currently working on the new generation Outlander Sport. We know that because we just spotted the camouflaged prototype, that’s looks like it’s almost ready for the official debut. Well okay, the job isn’t done completely, but we already see some new and exciting styling cues. This means that the carmaker could introduce the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport sometime next year, likely in the second half of 2017.

Exterior and Interior Changes

In any case, the 2018 Outlander Sport shows a totally redesigned face. Yes, the prototype sports a new design language, which is previewed with the concept eX, which was uncovered last year at Tokyo Motor Show. Judging by the spy shots, the crossover will borrow most of the details from the front end. There are a distinctive grille and aggressive headlights, as well as the oversized fog lamps. Around back, the testing model features a dynamic design that largely indicates that the new generation Mitsubishi Outlander Sport could be some kind of the coupe-looking crossover.

In contrast to the exterior that’s mainly camouflaged, we managed to catch a big part of the new interior. There are a driver-focused infotainment screen and the analog gauge cluster. The seats are getting heaters, while the crossover should have a standard navigation system. What we know for sure is that there will be no any manual gearbox. We are sure because of the prototype uses an automatic transmission.

Maybe A Hybrid Under The Hood

And while we know almost everything regarding the styling, there is still nothing official from Mitsubishi’s powertrain department. The most likely option is a new plug-in hybrid drivetrain that was already previewed with the XR-PHEV II concept. The drivetrain combines a gasoline engine and about 160 hp powerful electric motor that is supplied with a 12 kWh battery capacity.

Stay tuned for updates.
