Volvo’s new generation best-selling nameplate will land on the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The Swedish car manufacturer has released a single teaser photo that doesn’t reveal much, but enough to anticipate in which direction will go the 2018 Volvo XC60.
Redesign Details
This particular teaser shows just the front fascia of the next generation XC60. Judging by the photo, the compact SUV will definitely borrow most of the cues from the bigger XC90. The crossover features LED Thor’s Hammer headlights and Volvo’s signature rectangular grille. As for the rest of the bodywork, the earlier spy shots suggested that the 2018 Volvo XC60 sports a little bit more dynamic hood design and likely more sloping roof. In the rear, the redesigned crossover will get the distinctive waterfall-style taillights. How we see it, the second-generation Volvo XC60 will be just smaller and more athletic version of the XC90. It’s the same story inside. The cab packs pretty much the same elements as the bigger brother. There are a rotary-dial controller and completely digital instrument cluster.
SPA Platform and Engines
Volvo’s highly flexible SPA platform that currently underpins the larger XC90 will be suitable for the all-new XC90 as well. The architecture will make the compact crossover larger, lighter, and compatible with more engine options. We will probably see gasoline, oil-burners, and hybrids under the hood. As for the gasoline model, it will use T5 and T6 engines. The turbocharged T5 will likely deliver around 240 horsepower, while the supercharged T6 should be able to reach approximately 300 ponies. On the other hand, the oil-burner model will use the efficient D3 mill that’s capable of delivering 148 hp and 258 lb-ft of twist and the twin-turbo D5 with 232 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of twist. Every option will be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, while you will be able to choose between front- and all-wheel drive setups.
Familiar Hybrid Drivetrain
The 2018 Volvo XC60 Hybrid will probably come sometime after the regular model. It will use the amazing T8 Twin Engine system that combines the T6 gasoline unit with an electric motor. Together the powertrain should be able to produce 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of twist.
Estimated Price
Like we said, the completely redesigned 2018 Volvo XC60 will strip away all its camouflage at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, which starts in a couple of days, so we will found out more about the amazing compact SUV very soon. The carmaker won’t release any pricing information at the official debut, yet out insider claims that the base model won’t overstep $42K.
