2019 Mercedes G 350 d: New Diesel-Powered G-Class SUV

Mercedes introduced a new entry-level G-Class model, but not for North America. Yes, from now on, the rest of the world will be able to get the 2019 Mercedes G 350 d – an oil-burner version of the iconic nameplate which will rely on a turbo-diesel powertrain.

More precisely, the G 350 d is going to use automaker’s all-new engine. According to them, the 3.0-liter inline six with turbocharged aid will be capable of delivering 286 horsepower and whopping 443 pound-feet of torque from 1,200 to 3,200 RPM. In other words, that’s 210 kW and 600 Nm. SUV’s top speed will be limited to 124 mph (199 km/h), while the oil-chugging mill should enable a respectable 0-62 mph time that’s estimated to be 7.4 seconds. By using the mill, the 2019 Mercedes G 350 d will achieve combined fuel economy rating of 9.8 to 9.6 liters per 100 kilometers. That’s approximately 24 mph/combined, which is not bad at all when you take into consideration G-Class’ boxy shape and imposing curb weight.

The new entry-level G-Class diesel will be fitted with a nine-speed automatic transmission and AdBlue exhaust gas recirculation. Irrespective of the fact it’s the base model, it comes fitted with the special front suspension with double wishbones for more precise steering control and greater ride quality. The cabin features a refined design and digital cockpit, as well as high-level materials.

Unfortunately, the German car manufacturer has no intention to offer the 2019 Mercedes G 350 d in the United States. Instead, the entry-level G-Class for North American stays a 416-hp G 550.
