Redesigned 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe Spotted Testing

A testing prototype of the completely redesigned 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe has been spied camouflaged. Since it’s totally wrapped around with extensive body cladding it’s pretty hard to understand what’s happening beneath. Still, we’ve managed to notice the most important change and that’s an independent rear suspension that replaces today’s solid axle.

The prototype hosts the new multi-link suspension layout in the back, which will have a great influence on comfort, especially in the back seats. The change is important because the lack of the current massive live axle opens the possibility to low down the floor and thus enables an additional space for the third-row passengers. Pretty much everything else is still unknown and rumor-based. The prototype shows new 20-inch shiny aluminum rims, but since it’s pretty far from its official debut, the production model will probably get some totally different alloys. Up front, the 2020 Tahoe appears to feature a dual-port grille treatment and more pronounced front bumper. Plus, the camouflage most likely hides a set of pretty large headlights.

The next-generation Chevy Tahoe will ride on a new platform. The SUV will share the T1XX architecture with the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 which promises more high-strength steel and aluminum. By using the chassis the vehicle will reportedly lose around 400 pounds and this has to have a great influence on the future fuel economy numbers.

Have you seen the dual exhaust tips in the back? The layout promises an updated version of GM’s 6.2L V-8. The mighty mill will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and Dynamic Fuel Management, which is there to handle use of cylinders depending on situations.  The 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe will keep the 5.3-liter V8 unit without any doubt. The engine, however, will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Silverado’s 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel will not be among the options, because the automaker doesn’t plan to make the 2020 Tahoe Diesel. On the other hand, a 310-hp 2.7-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine could be one of the options.

Stay tuned for updates.
