2016 Honda Pilot — Bigger and Lighter SUV with Better Features

An all-new, third-generation 2016 Honda Pilot is introduced, and according to the latest reports, the crossover will go on sale this summer. The carmaker hasn’t announced the actual price yet, but for now we know that there will be five trim levels available. Compared to the previous version, the 2016 Pilot will show lots of improvements. The exterior and interior layouts are redesigned to the last detail, while the crossover also features better engine and transmission. In addition, there is higher technology content, as well as incomparably better safety system.

2016 Honda Pilot: Engine Department

Under the hood, the 2016 Honda Pilot has a new direct-injected 3.5-liter V-6 unit that delivers 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. With the base trims, the engine is paired with a standard six-speed auto gearbox, but with the top trims the crossover gets Honda’s first nine-speed automatic transmission. This ZF-sourced gearbox comes with automatic start-stop system, while the engine features two-stage Variable Cylinder Management. There will be both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive setups, and the second uses two electronically controlled clutch packs, so better traction is guaranteed. This is rather terrain management system than Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, so it is quite clear that the carmaker rather goes for better all-weather abilities.

2016 Honda Pilot: Redesign and Features

Substantially redesigned exterior styling of the 2016 Honda Pilot really looks different than before. Now, the SUV features more minivan-like design, without earlier boxy design. Sleeker shape is not the only change outside, because the 2016 Pilot now has bigger body as well. Stretched SUV comes with 194.9 inches and with 110.9-inch wheelbase. Still, despite upsizing, the new Pilot will be 300 pound lighter than before, which will additionally affect fuel economy.

Updated features and tech transforms this SUV into one really innovative and modern vehicle, while the larger body should provide more space, especially in the third-row seats. The entertainment and safety features are also improved, so now the 2016 Pilot gets Collision Mitigation Braking System, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, and adaptive cruise control.

2016 Honda Pilot: Price
