According to Cadillac president Steve Carlisle, the automaker will have a completely new vehicle to show at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show next January. While they can’t finish their new sedans CT4 and CT5 until then, the automaker will definitely be able to show an all-new three-row crossover. Yes, the 2020 Cadillac XT6 is in the final phase of testing and will be ready to debut at next year’s NAIAS.
By introducing the all-new three-row crossover, Cadillac intends to fill the gap between the XT5 and the flagship Escalade. The vehicle will be underpinned by the extended version of the C1XX platform; the same one that supports the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave. The regular C1XX, on the other hand, is in charge of the smaller XT5 crossover, as well as the current GMC Acadia and Chevrolet’s upcoming Blazer. Cadillac hasn’t said anything regarding the footprint of the new three-row SUV, but the newest reports that the XT6 is going to have identical proportions like the Audi Q7, which means that there will be more than enough room for all passengers.
The 2020 Cadillac XT6 will arrive paired with two engine options, both V6. A naturally aspirated 3.6-liter mill will power the base model and will be able to deliver 302 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The more potent SUV is going to be paired with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that pumps out 404 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Both options will likely be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive. Just don’t expect Cadillac’s new 4.2-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine anywhere near the hood of the XT6, because the mill isn’t compatible with the C1XX platform.
Since we’ve seen completely camouflaged prototypes until now, we can’t really know how exactly is going to look the 2020 XT6. Still, based on the testing models, we assume that the automaker plans to add some elements from the awesome Escala concept, especially in the front. The profile of the car, on the other hand, appears to be sleeker than XT5’s thanks to the lower roof. Inside of the cabin, the 2020 XT6 is going to host the latest CUE interface with a 10-inch display without any doubt. The automaker will not skip the chance to offer a quite useful video-streaming rear-view mirror, as well as the Super Cruise hands-free driver assist feature.
Cadillac’s all-new three-row crossover will hit the showrooms next spring or summer with the base price slightly over $50,000.
