Mitsubishi GT-PHEV Concept May Be The Announcement Of The 2018 Mitsubishi Montero

Mitsubishi never skips the chance to introduce something new and exciting, but sadly, it’s always some concept vehicle, and very, very rare the production-ready model. The Japanese carmaker continues with the bad habit, so you can see the all-new and quite interesting Mitsubishi GT-PHEV Concept at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. As you see, the Grand Tourer Concept features SUV body, but what’s more important, it shows the new generation plug-in hybrid system.

The interesting SUV has pretty impressive exterior styling, so the carmaker will definitely use some of the details for the next generation crossover, possibly the new Outlander and Montero crossovers. The concept sports really handsome front end, so the new grille and headlights should be used in the future. On the other hand, the interior is specially made for the concept’s needs, so don’t expect anything similar inside of the upcoming Mitsubishis.

The most important part of the Mitsubishi GT-PHEV Concept is its new drivetrain system. The plug-in hybrid setup combines an engine and three electric motors, as well as high-capacity battery. One of the electric motors works in the front together with the 2.5-liter gasoline engine, while the other two motors run the rear wheels. The Japanese car manufacturer hasn’t said anything about the overall power, but it mentioned that the new 25-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack provides enough capacity for an electric-only range of 75 miles, which is pretty impressive.

As we see it, the carmaker could introduce the plug-in hybrid powertrain to the North American drivers together with the all-new 2018 Mitsubishi Montero, which is definitely coming back in the next two years.
